About the Work:
At the beginning of his creation, I originally took bizarre creatures as the subject, intending to present a strange scene of a girl in a spacesuit hunting a human-faced octopus in a futuristic SF world. When the progress was about 80% complete, the octopus still existed, but as the production progressed, my thoughts changed, and I wanted to convey a more story-driven spiritual core. With this idea gradually occupying my mind, the theme eventually became "the moment of panic before encountering the strange," and the octopus had to quietly exit. Ahead, the cave was already littered with corpses, but the girl remained unaware. A chilly wind blew from the cave entrance, seeming to express the pioneer exploration team's reluctance and the eerie whisper from the underworld of life and death.
"Girl and Death" and "Time" have always been classic themes since ancient times, and I hope to interpret them in a more transcendent and modern way through my hands.
About the Artist:
Masato Ohata is known for his skill in sculpting charismatic young men and women, infused with visual elements from popular culture. Some of his notable works include the "Survival" series with a post-apocalyptic zombie theme, the "Hyakki Yagyo" series with a fusion of Eastern yokai and divine elements, and the "Tokyo Video Game Girl" series with a cyberpunk aesthetic.
