Wukong, a character from the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West, is one of the themes created by Chinese artist Liu Dongzi. In his heart, Sun Wukong embodies the appearance of a macaque, a small body containing immense energy. Since childhood, Liu Dongzi, who has always had dreams of heroes, found everything he aspired to in Sun Wukong. As an adult, Liu Dongzi established an emotional connection with Sun Wukong through his paintings.
One of his well-known works is the "Eastern Monkey" series, in which Wukong stands on a pile of corpses, looking at the audience with a rebellious gaze, making people curious about the story behind the painting. This painting is inspired by a touching scene from the original Journey to the West: when Wukong "killed" the White Bone Demon, Xuanzang (the Tang Monk) severed their master-disciple relationship in a fit of anger. Upon returning to the Flower and Fruit Mountain in sorrow, Sun Wukong found that his homeland had been ravaged by hunters, and the once thriving and vibrant Flower and Fruit Mountain was no more. This led to Sun Wukong's furious rampage, slaughtering numerous hunters with eagles and dogs. The painting by Liu Dongzi depicts Wukong filled with killing intent.
Bronze lost-wax casting method for casting. Heat coloring technique. Pure mineral colors with different proportions fine-tuned through repeated adjustments. After heat coloring, natural wax is used to protect the bronze pieces. With the passage of time and the collector's handling, the bronze will develop a unique patina, adding to its natural charm.
